Welcome to the Fog Blog #13

The music industry won’t revolutionise itself, you know?

Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

The Magic Bullet… everyone wants one.

The amount of calls we get during the week from acts who want to know how to (a) get signed to a major label, (b) get a publishing deal, (c) get a booking agent and (d) get on to the next Big Day Out could be counted on one, if not, BOTH hands. Actually, it’s not the quantity that amazes, it’s the consistency.

All these acts call up and ask how they can be famous… NOW! Surely with all our combined years of experience here at Foghorn we must know all the secrets about having success in the music business overnight. Right? They don’t want to know about rehearsing, touring, booking their own gigs, telling everyone about their act or slogging it out night after night in clubs and pubs. No, none of this hard work for them! They won’t read Malcolm Gladwell “Outliers” and learn about the 10,000 hours of practice you need to put in to master something… they want to go straight from zero to hero.

And of course, there is a way they can do this. We still exist in an industry that can make stars overnight. All you have to do is write a hit song.

There you go. Simple.

How to NOT Revolutionise The Music Industry

Does anyone remember Spiralfrog? Apart from their creditors?

No. Didn’t think so.This is chilling reading about how to not make

a successful business from an ad-supported FREE music website. Link

And How TO Revolutionise The Music Industry

I don’t know how much longer I will follow Spotify.

It’s not even available here yet and yet I’m fascinated by it.

So, here is another story about how they’ve raised another kabillion dollars…

Who said Venture Capital was dead?

Embedded Videos = Lazy Blogging

OK, this might be lazy, but these two clips are cool. First up is Paul Dempsey from his latest solo album. Great looking clip and the most enjoyable track I’ve heard from PD...

Blue Juice – Broken Leg

I saw Bluejuice at the Hopetoun Hotel a few weeks ago and they played this track live for the first time… I think. I immediately loved it, but the film clip is KILLER.

Is that a bandwagon I can hear???

This week's gratuitous photo of
