Everyone is entitled to my opinion...
Charities do pretty well out of music. Musicians are always the first to suggest getting together to raise money for a cause, or for a fellow muso who may have fallen on hard times. Their generosity is completely at odds with their level of income which, let’s face it, is spotty at best… not to mention completely lacking in any sort of superannuation plan.
Last week I helped organise a gig to raise money for Oxfam. Some friends had decided to take part in the Oxfam Trailwalker event where teams get together to walk/run through bushland from the Hawkesbury River to Sydney, a distance of over 50km. So with the help of Sue Telfer at the Excelsior Hotel, Surry Hills and a few willing participants, “Roxfam” was born!
The night was a great success, raising just under $1000 and taking my friend’s team to an overall total well past their target of $6000. So a big Fog Blog thank you to Johnny Zoch, Very Unique Existence, Eli Wolfe and headliners Royal Chant who donated their time, energy and in some cases, a share of their merch sales to Roxfam.
I will update you next week on how the team fared on the Trailwalk.
