Fog Blog

Welcome to the Fog Blog #20

Revolutionising the music business a bit slowly this week...

Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

Those of you who have previously read this blog may be aware that I find Myspace to be the most annoying user interface known to man. In my more charitable moments, I have been known to refer to it as a “dogs breakfast”.

I have spent the better part of the entire day updating two of our Myspace profiles. Two! A whole day!

It’s like some Orwellian maze that once you’re in, it commences to crush your soul and you can’t seem to escape. Then when you finally see a light at the end of the tunnel, it turns out that the connection has crashed and all that information you’ve just “uploaded” has been lost.

And now the majors have done a deal with Uncle Rupert and launched Myspace Music. I checked it out today… same old slow loading player, same old crappy MP3 quality sound and lots of KFC ads. Ripper!

I know it was never intended that Myspace be anything other than the new FM radio, but come on, who REALLY spends time checking out new music on Myspace out there? Come on. Hand ups… that’s right, both of you!

If you want to read about the battle between the Evil Major Record Labels and the Benign and Gentle Independent Labels as they battle over the fate of the fabled Queen of Advertising Revenue in the Kingdom of Myspace, you should read Christie Elizer’s column here.

ARIA Award Nominations and the Winners

Gazing into my crystal ball today, I saw the winners of this year’s ARIA Awards. Yep, I am going out on a limb here and will attempt to pick the winners in every major category.

What would Dave do??

He’d take 12 foot leap off the drum riser, do the splits in mid air,

blow a kiss to the cute girl in the front row, scream “We Love You People!” in a really high voice and still find time to remind the audience to

buy a T-shirt on the way out.
