Fog Blog

Welcome to the Fog Blog #26

The revolution is over...

Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

I read in the paper today that Ed St. John said that the ARIA's are not designed to "make people lots of money". (SMH, 26 Nov. 09)

At this point, his nose started to grow...

I mean seriously, can you spell "disingenuous"?

Everyone knows the ARIA Awards were designed specifically to provide a focus on Australian product in the lead up to Christmas and therefore drive sales. Name me one member of ARIA who doesn't agree with this?

That's like saying the Oscars aren't about selling movie tickets.

Australia Gets It Right...

I realised very early on Sunday night that the only way to watch the final of Australian Idol was through the haze of alcohol. It was a good call.

It’s a testament to the quality of the program that the back drop of Sydney harbour and the Opera House easily upstages the talent on stage. This year’s final had only one truly memorable moment that came during Michael Buble’s performance featuring fireworks as a light show. If they took out all the non-essential elements from the show, you would have had an intro, Buble’s song (with fireworks), the announcement of the winner (with fireworks) and then the winner’s song performed (with fireworks).

Would make a cosy half hour...And I wouldn’t have missed so much of the cricket.

Oh, and Stan won, as predicted. Fingers crossed I do as well with my ARIA Award predictions this week...

Speaking of the ARIA’s…

Last year I discovered the best way to enjoy the ARIA Awards.

You buy a heap of beer, go to a mates place, watch the broadcast on TV, then you crash an After Party of your choice (in our case, it was the Modular Records one).

It saves you a ton of money and it means you don’t have to travel out to bloody Homebush to sit in a room of people you barely tolerate during the year but who are your best mates for the rest of the evening. And you leave the party as soon as the free beer runs out. Easy.

I ran my ARIA predictions back in October and will do a wrap up next week of how badly I fared. Suffice to say, I am quietly confident that Empire of the Sun will clean up.

Album of the Week!

It’s Ours!

If you listen to ABC’s Dig Music online this week, you will be hearing heaps of tracks from Foghorn Records very own “Home Grown Roots Vol 4” compilation.

That’s right, we are Album of the Week!

You can check out the lovely promo page that ABC has made for us here.

Now, all we need is some stock…

Live In the Studio

Last week we had the inaugural Live in the Studio performances at Damien Gerards. I know I promised you some footage this week, but I am going to wait until the tracks are mixed before I post them for you. It was a great week of shows with so many highlights and great performances that I will try to get to you over the next couple of weeks.

What Would Dave Do?

After all the ARIA Award excitement this week, he’d probably just yawn…
