Everyone is entitled to my opinion...
A week is certainly a long time in politics…
After the UK Conservative party didn’t win the unlosable election last week, it would appear they have come over all Tasmanian-like and started a coalition government. Best of luck to them.
They have been talking about electoral reform over there a lot during the campaign, which certainly sounds like a good, if somewhat belated, idea. The “first-past-the-post” system they have used was originally implemented so that local people could end up representing their local village. It’s such a charming thought… and then they decided that election day should be Thursday and that voting should not be compulsory…
The reason Thursday was chosen was that it used to be market day, when everyone would come into the village to buy their weekly supplies. It’s been that way since 1931 apparently. So quaint, so British… so completely outdated.
In local news, we will be having an election here this year… my tip is early October. Just after the AFL Grand Final and before the cricket season starts.
