Revolutionising the music business on a weekly basis...

Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

A week is certainly a long time in politics…

After the UK Conservative party didn’t win the unlosable election last week, it would appear they have come over all Tasmanian-like and started a coalition government. Best of luck to them.

They have been talking about electoral reform over there a lot during the campaign, which certainly sounds like a good, if somewhat belated, idea. The “first-past-the-post” system they have used was originally implemented so that local people could end up representing their local village. It’s such a charming thought… and then they decided that election day should be Thursday and that voting should not be compulsory…

The reason Thursday was chosen was that it used to be market day, when everyone would come into the village to buy their weekly supplies. It’s been that way since 1931 apparently. So quaint, so British… so completely outdated.

In local news, we will be having an election here this year… my tip is early October. Just after the AFL Grand Final and before the cricket season starts.

My Local Member

Speaking of elections…

Now that I am living on the Dark Side of the Bridge, I decided to change my address on the electoral roll. They sent me a lovely letter pointing out that Tony Abbott was my local member. Awesome.

The man himself sent me a welcome letter during the week. I was chuffed. Apparently he values my opinion! Which is amazing really, because in actual fact I doubt he would like to hear it.

Bring on October, I say. It will be Bennelong all over again.

Puns About Water Due To Feature Heavily

I shouldn’t really attempt to joke about this…

Some of you may be aware that there have been massive floods in Nashville, Tennessee that have devastated parts of this amazing musical city. The rest of you would be none the wiser because the media coverage has been absolutely woeful, not just here, but also in the US. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, the Greece bailout and the UK elections seem to be hogging all the limelight.

Over here, we get a Skype interview from Keith Urban on breakfast telly. Fantastic…

I have a couple of friends who have moved to Nashville recently and it’s a bit of concern when you actually see how much damage the floods have caused. There is some interesting info contained in this link, plus some websites listed at the bottom of the article for people wishing to donate money.

So, expect lots of songs over the next few months with plenty of water themes…

Pete’s Predictions

Alliteration notwithstanding, this could become a regular feature of the blog…

This week, my prediction is that by the end of the year, the entire country will be in love with Megan Washington. Many of you already are. In fact some of you are so far ahead of the curve that I’ll be accused of jumping on the bandwagon BEFORE her album is even released…

But I have been telling all and sundry that she will be massive this year and after one look at her latest video for Rich Kids, I reckon you will be too… enjoy!
