Fog Blog

Welcome to the Fog Blog #44

Revolutionising the music business on a weekly basis...

Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

Facebook…

As if I don’t have enough things to waste my time on…

Admittedly, it is great for staying in touch with family and friends that you actually like and, of course, those that live in cities other than your own. Plus you can have a bit of fun with it from time to time… like when I post videos of 70’s heavy rock acts playing in Sydney harbour in 1978… ahh, those were the days.

But it also allows people that you don’t like to know what you’re doing. You know, like those guys in high school that you always thought were dorks and who you never really hung out with and didn’t even consider them at the time, but 20 odd years later they want to be your friends. Like, why?

And as for ex-partners? Well, this song pretty much sums it up…

(PS: this rant may or may not just have been an excuse to play this song… which is ace and very funny)

Fog Blog Parent Alert!

As the only non-parent in the office, I can only assume that keeping your kids away from a career in rock n’ roll must be an ongoing daily battle for you all. What with all the awesome role models out there for kids today, I’d say it must be pretty hard to warn your children off the potential dangers of a life in the hectic, topsy-turvy world of Rock.

Well, let me just say that the Fog Blog is here to help. Just one look at this video of a former Led Zeppelin roadie will be enough to turn any budding muso (or roadie) into a good, clean living accountant or something…

Yes, it really is THAT scary…

Two Sides to Every Story

Just like back in the good old days of vinyl, there are two sides to every story.

This week, I managed to discover two stories about the current state on the music business. They are both really long. You can read them here and here.

Or I can paraphrase them for you here.

The record industry is f*#@ed.

Not Nearly As Bad As You’d Expect…

The relationship with our “esteemed industry magazine” and the Fog Blog got off to a rocky start.

We just didn’t click. It was no-one’s fault really…maybe we just had different expectations for the relationship… maybe our timing was just wrong…

Whatever…

They launched their new website today and it’s really quite good. Credit where it’s due, and all…

Check it out here.

Long Overdue

For quite a while now, I’ve been thinking that the Fog Blog has been missing something… something I can’t quite put my finger on…kind of like a “missing link” that would explain our shared ancestry via music and biology… maybe I think about this too much…

What it really needs is a video of a dancing cockatoo.

And look, if you really want to get in depth, you can read this fascinating article from the New York Times.

I obviously have WAY too much time on my hands at the moment…

What Would Dave Do?

Look, even Dave is trying to get in on the cockatoo angle!
