Revolutionising the music business on a weekly basis...

Everyone is entitled to my opinion...

The World Cup…

Is it over yet? Can’t I just go back to ignoring soccer now?

And who said we have to start calling soccer ‘football’ now? And what’s with the superiority complex of calling it the World game?

If anyone has actually travelled the world, you would understand why so many countries play soccer. It’s because the game is easy. Even the poorest people in the poorest country can turn a goat’s bladder into something resembling a ball, find a couple of piles of crap to make some goal posts and viola! Instant national soccer team.

And don’t even get me started on ex-Socceroo Craig Foster banging on about how important the Australian bid to host the World Cup in 2022 is crucial for our “children’s future”! If Australia is supposed to play soccer, why are we so crap at it?

But lastly, if we really are to start calling it ‘football’, why is our national team called the Socceroos?

Canberra: The Nation’s Capital

Last Saturday I went on a road trip to Canberra, our nation’s capital, to play a gig. Awesome! Just like being a real rock n’ roll star!

The last time I went to Canberra was to see a gig by Urge Overkill at the ANU bar. I literally drove down, saw the gig, then turned around and drove home. And before that was in year 10 at high school.

So I was pleasantly surprised this time around that it actually has some interest for me. We drove past the new Parliament house, saw the AFL oval at Manuka and checked out the new shopping centre at Civic. Wow, it’s just like Sydney only HEAPS colder.

The gig was at a little café/bar in Lyneham called The Front. They have excellent liquor licensing laws in Canberra (unlike Sydney… grrr…) so we were able to choose from their list of a dozen different single malt whiskeys through to Melbourne Bitter stubbies, all without having to eat anything. It was just like being treated like adults!

And of course, the reason we were there was to play the official Canberra launch of Johnny Zoch’s “Blood Sample” EP. Which you can listen to here, you lucky devils… and how good is the drumming?

Drummer Joke?

Steve Moore is a drummer from the US who plays in a covers band. So what is he doing in the Fog Blog you may ask? Well, he’s just the most awesomest cover band drummer ever, that’s why.

Watch the video and then read the interview… he’s amazingly down to earth.

Personally, I blame guitarists who take so long to tune and get all their stupid pedal settings right, that the drummer has to do SOMETHING while they’re waiting. Hence, stick twirling was invented. But this guy takes it to a whole new level. Enjoy.

Ream 'em and Weep

In Fog Blog 44, I mentioned that the record business is f*$#ed.

And this article pretty much sums it up.

Can the last person to leave the music business please turn off the lights…

Something for Everybody

It will probably come as little surprise to any of you that I was a huge Devo fan as a kid,

I even saved up and bought a real Devo energy dome that I wore to their first concert in Melbourne, back some time in the early 80’s. Actually, some guy tried to steal it off my head as we were leaving. I had to chase him down the street to get it back.

Wow, how tough was I?

But back to Devo… they have a new album coming out, and as you’d expect, they are determined to stick to their guns regarding the “devolution” of modern society. Watch this video, it’s fantastic, and it’s a Part 1, so I will keep on posting all the new ones…

And I love the fact they have their own corporate anthem!

What Would Dave Do?

He’d tell Mike to duck... just in time…
