Everyone is entitled my opinion...
I despair…
I despair over the upcoming federal election. It wakes me up in the middle of
the night…
I despair that we lack any sense of real leadership and that as every day
passes, we edge closer to the possibility of a hung parliament. The likelihood
of this actually happening is real, and the reality of it would probably mean
that three independent MP’s would hold the balance of power regarding every
piece of legislation put to parliament. This is very scary.
I despair that there exists a very real possibility that Tony Abbott could be
our next PM. I find it amazing that people actually believe anything he says.
Is that a core or non-core answer? Is it the truth or is it gospel truth? Did
you just make that up or is it written down? Which part of “absolute crap”
didn’t you understand?
I despair that after banging on for so long about the need for more women in
politics, and despite having the opportunity to vote for our very first female
PM, that I am seriously considering voting Greens. Although, deep down, I
already know on election day how I will vote… I will rejoice at putting Tony
Abbott (my local member) at the very bottom of the ballot.
But I despair the fact that there is NO ONE in Canberra who can match the kind
of thinking that I dearly miss from Paul Keating. He is quoted in his
biography, “Recollections of a Bleeding Heart”, as saying “When you’re in the
big office, you have to dream the big dreams”.
All the dreams we have on offer at the moment are very, very small.
