Revolutionising the music business on a weekly basis...

Everyone is entitled my opinion...

I despair…

I despair over the upcoming federal election. It wakes me up in the middle of the night…

I despair that we lack any sense of real leadership and that as every day
passes, we edge closer to the possibility of a hung parliament. The likelihood of this actually happening is real, and the reality of it would probably mean that three independent MP’s would hold the balance of power regarding every piece of legislation put to parliament. This is very scary.

I despair that there exists a very real possibility that Tony Abbott could be our next PM. I find it amazing that people actually believe anything he says. Is that a core or non-core answer? Is it the truth or is it gospel truth? Did you just make that up or is it written down? Which part of “absolute crap” didn’t you understand?

I despair that after banging on for so long about the need for more women in politics, and despite having the opportunity to vote for our very first female PM, that I am seriously considering voting Greens. Although, deep down, I already know on election day how I will vote… I will rejoice at putting Tony Abbott (my local member) at the very bottom of the ballot.

But I despair the fact that there is NO ONE in Canberra who can match the kind of thinking that I dearly miss from Paul Keating. He is quoted in his
biography, “Recollections of a Bleeding Heart”, as saying “When you’re in the big office, you have to dream the big dreams”.

All the dreams we have on offer at the moment are very, very small.

New Releases - Foghorn

Even though I mentioned these guys a couple of blogs ago, I am going to give them another run today…

I just received the finished version of the Weapon Head CD “Surgical Smile”. It looks fantastic. The artwork and packaging are great and the record sounds awesome.

In fact, I am going to go out on a limb and give away three copies to the first three Fog Blog readers who request a copy.

The guys are up for an award at the Q Music Awards next Tuesday and kick off their first leg of touring to support the album release next Friday in Goondiwindi.

I Give In...

I hate to admit it… but I want an iPhone 4.

It has taken me until now to admit that I have fallen for its charms. It’s
sleek, it’s got apps… it’s got more GB’s than the last one… umm… it’s an
iPhone.

But I still want one… damn you Steve Jobs!

And Another Thing...

Apple have moved another step closer to a cloud based app for iTunes. At
this stage it is looking like it will be limited to tracks that you already
own, but being able to access them via the cloud would be cool. Way cool.

You can read about it here, should that be the kind of thing that excites
you…

The Nation Decides…

One final rant about the election…

It’s kind of like a car crash… it’s like watching everything happen in slow
motion, but you feel powerless to do anything about it. Even though I am
despondent about this election being a “race to the bottom”, the coverage of
it in the digital world is awesome. It will be the very first Twitter
election, that’s for sure…

Some of the best coverage I have read so far has come from political journos
who are following the campaign around the country and who tweet about just
about everything they are experiencing. It’s riveting and, if I am honest,
is totally distracting me from my work. And if you really want to get a feel
for what being a campaign journalist is like, can I suggest you read this
article
from Annabel Crabb.

What Would Dave Do?

He must be using the same hair dryer that Julia Gillard used in this months
Women’s Weekly…
